Installation

Installing Java

This application needs an update to Java installation on the client side. Please go to http://java.sun.com to download a suitable JRE oder JDK. You might refer to Installation of Java (German) for further help.

Installing ILIAS Management Console

Installing the application is quite easy since we use a very simple to use installer. After having successfully installed a suitable Java, just double click the jar file or executable, you received from your distributor or from trial download. Read and follow the instructions the installer is telling you.

Client Requirements

The installer and the ILIAS Management Console are compatible to Java 6.0 or higher. Therefore, you need an up-to-date Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed at your system, e.g. Java 1.6.0_16 (also known as Java 6). See above for installation instructions. The more users you want to handle simulaneously the more memory you need. As a rule of thumb you can see, that handling 1000 users requires more or less 256 MB memory.

Server Requirements

The ILIAS Management Console is - depending on the purchased version - currently compatible with the major release ILIAS 4.0.x. You may damage data, if you use it with other versions of ILIAS. If you update to another release, please contact your responsible admin to see if you need to upgrade or patch.

The ILIAS Management Console uses the integrated SOAP-Interface in ILIAS. Please assure that SOAP is enabled in the administration section of your ILIAS installation. Additionally, it is important to assure that the script timeout is set to high number since operations on server side could take a while, in particular when importing or doing mass manipulations. Ask you system administrator if you are not sure about that or if you don’t have rights to change these values.
